The beginning of the year is an excellent time for establishing new priorities and resolutions. Health and fitness goals tend to be top resolutions for many, but have you thought about your home? Read on to learn which heating, ventilation, and air conditioning resolutions should top your list.
1. Make Sensible Air Filter Changes
Resolute to change your air quality with proper air filters in your HVAC system. Air filters protect the interior of your air handler by removing particles from your home’s air supply, improving your indoor air quality. Consider investing in filters that are rated for smaller particle removal. Also look for a MERV of eight or higher as you select your filters. Additionally, with heavier air conditioner use, your air filter will require more frequent changes. Make sure that you check your filter at least once per month. With our WE Filter Club you’ll never have to worry about remembering to change your filter.
2. Schedule Duct Cleaning
Cleaning and replacing damaged ductwork is another key to new year’s success that should be at the top of your resolutions. The particles that make their way through your air filter and continue to circulate in your HVAC system can settle in the ducts. This can contaminate the air moving through this area and provoke health symptoms. Although you don’t need to clean your ducts every year, it is a good idea to have them cleaned every few years to remove excess debris.
3. Have an Indoor Air Quality Evaluation Performed
Polluted indoor air can cause a variety of health problems. You may deal with the symptoms of allergies, or you could encounter serious volatile organic compounds in your airstream. The condition of your HVAC system could even lead to humidity problems that promote mold growth in your home. An HVAC technician can assess these issues based on your concerns, recommending solutions such as germicidal air purifiers, energy recovery ventilators, or modern AC equipment with improved dehumidification features.
