Can I Have More Than One AC For My Home?

As Floridians, we know the woes of high temperatures and humidity levels. For the better part of the year, it seems like keeping cool is a full-time job. So it’s no wonder that many of us considering doing some crazy things to keep cool when the heat rises (think ice baths and an all popsicle diet). Thus, you begin to consider if having more than one unit in your house is a good idea or even possible for that matter.

So, can you even have more than one air conditioning system for your home? And if so, is it a good idea? We’ll explain here.

Wall Units vs. Central Air

Whether or not you need more than one air conditioner depends upon what you already have. For example, one wall unit is generally not enough to cool down an entire home, unless you have a studio apartment or a very small house with an open layout. Even then, you likely still need an air conditioner for the bedroom as well as for the main living area. On the other hand, if you already have a central air conditioning system, then you probably do not need more than one unit.

The Space of Your House

One of the main determining factors in figuring out if you need another air conditioner is the space of your house. Very large houses may need multiple units to keep them cool. However, that is only if you want all of them running at the same time. You should also consider how much power your house can maintain, or you could end up blowing a fuse. Think about whether you are currently bothered by the lack of cool air in a particular space. If you’re not, then you don’t necessarily need to add a unit.
