Easy To- Do Lists to Enhance Your House
October is here and we’re finally starting to experience at least some relief from the summer heat. This means a few things: We can start actually enjoying the outdoors without sweating. We can start raising the temperatures on our thermostats. And, we can start our honey-do list for the fall.
Not sure what to add to your honey-do list? Follow these easy honey-do list tips and tricks to get your house prepared for the cooler months.
Things To Do Around the Outside of Your House
Check the seals around your windows and doors. When the temperatures change it’s important to check the cracks and seals around your house to make sure they are intact. This will help lower your energy bills and will help your HVAC system run efficiently. While you’re at it, it might not be a bad idea to tackle cleaning the blinds and windows too!
Check up on your AC. Cleaning your AC on a regular basis is an easy way to get the maximum air delivery from your AC unit at all times. To start, clean away dirt and debris from your outdoor AC unit (specifically the condenser and compressor units).
Clean the condenser fins. Condenser fins are metallic blades that surround your AC unit. They get dirty because they suck in dust and particles from the outside and produce clean air inside your home. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to clean your condenser fins:
- Turn off the power to your unit.
- Vacuum away debris like grass and leaves from the exterior fins with a brush attachment. All debris should be brushed away at least two feet from the condenser.
- Remove the fan. Unscrew the top grill. Lift the fan out and remove any debris. Wipe the interior surfaces clean with a damp cloth.
- Spray the fins from the inside spraying outward with a hose and a nozzle.
- Reinstall the fan. Restart the power and set the thermostat to cool.

Fan blades: Put a pillowcase on the fan blade and slowly pull it off. The dust will stay in the pillowcase and your fan will be clean.
Stubborn stains: Mix a water and vinegar solution in bucket or spray bottle. Drench the stain the solution and then put a hot iron on the affected area. The heat from the iron will lift the stain.
Carpet stains: Mix equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray it on the stain let it soak and then dab it up using a microfiber cloth.
Appliances: Use half a lemon to get water stains off your appliances.
