Where To Spend Leap Day 2016 on Florida’s Space Coast

Leap Day is the extra day added to the end of February during a leap year. We have leap years to keep our calendar in sync with the Earth’s revolutions around the sun. Our year is actually 365 days + roughly 6 hours — and those hours cause problems. Without leap years, the calendar would be off by 25 days by the end of 100 years.

Leap Day Traditions

Some customs and traditions grew around Leap Day. For example, in Ireland, it has traditionally been the one day on which a woman could propose marriage. In 1928, Harry Graddock, the bartender at the Savoy Hotel in London, crafted a drink for a Leap Day Celebration. Creatively called the “Leap Year Cocktail,” it’s a potent blend of gin, Sweet Vermouth, Grand Marnier and lemon juice.

Cocoa Beach

Regardless of who proposes to whom, Cocoa Beach is a good destination for romantics. It boasts a long pier perfect for strolling with one’s lover. There are also a variety of shops and seafood restaurants. People interested in something more active can call Cocoa Beach Kayaking for a guided tour through the Thousand Islands Conservation Area in the Indian River Lagoon. The company provides everything, from kayaks to sunscreen. For more information, call (321) 784-4545. For information about the beach, visit this link.

Chart House Melbourne

The Chart House Melbourne is known for both its seafood and its beef dishes. It serves brunch, dinner and happy hour. It sits on the banks of the Indian River and is located near both the Melbourne Beach and several night clubs. To learn more, visit this link.

Cafe Margaux
